Romney’s Big Mistake

Mitt Romney has spent the entire campaign trying to convince the GOP base that he is one of them, i.e., an arch conservative.  And yet, in spite of this, he still hasn’t won them over.

Or maybe that should be, because of this.  Why?  Because it’s simply not believable.  And the base sees right through it.  And because of this, they simply don’t trust him.

Mitt would’ve been better off being honest, and just admitting that on some issues, he simply is a moderate.  More moderate than the GOP base, at least.

Much of the base would’ve never supported him, of course.  But I believe that a higher percentage of them would have, had he embraced his inner moderate (mostly) publicly.

Why?  Because you can still support a candidate that you don’t completely agree with.  But you can’t support a candidate that you simply don’t trust.
